Standard DNA & RNA Test Plan - $100

For $100, our DNA & RNA plan screens your tick for 14-16 pathogens, including those causing Lyme disease, RMSF, and STARI.

Testing varies by species: the chart below outlines the specific panels for Deer vs. non-Deer ticks. Pathogens are listed in descending order of frequency based on our positive test data.

On average, ~60% of submitted specimens are Deer ticks (although geography has a great influence on this)

Alternative test plan options

Most comprehensive testing - for an additional $100, a plan that is recommended if it is difficult to determine the tick species or if the host was a pet/animal

For $200 total, our most comprehensive test will test to detect all of the listed DNA and RNA pathogens listed above, regardless of tick species (Deer tick or non-Deer tick). In addition, this plan will test for:

  • Ehrlichia canis (Canine (dog) ehrlichiosis) - tick-borne infectious disease that occurs in dogs and is usually carried by the brown dog tick. The disease seems to be particularly severe in German shepherd and Doberman pinscher breeds. it has also been called "tracker dog disease" and "tropical canine pancytopenia".
  • Bartonella henselae (Bartonellosis; Cat scratch fever) - a bacterium that is the causative agent of cat-scratch disease (bartonellosis). It primarily infects red blood cells and endothelial cells and is transmitted to humans through scratches, bites, tick or flea vectors associated with domestic and feral cats.
  • Babesia duncani - a tick-borne parasite causing a severe, malaria-like illness known as babesiosis, primarily found in the Western U.S. and emerging in Canada. First identified in 1991 in Washington State.
  • Babesia divergens - cause of bovine babesiosis, also known as "redwater fever," is considered the most important tick-transmitted disease in cattle.

Very basic testing - if you have a more limited budget, this basic DNA only test is available, that tests for fewer pathogens

For $60 total, we offer a test plan that will only evaluate your tick specimen for the 7 DNA pathogens in Deer tick species, or the 9 DNA pathogens in non-Deer tick species (see the chart above). There is no RNA based pathogen testing included in this basic plan, which means there is no testing for the Powassan virus pathogen.
